Changing face of comedy

I was watching a show on the weekend called 'the changing face of comedy' it was on Omni TV which we all know as a cheesy channel, one of those 'if nothing better is on' channels.

Anyway it was a quasi documentary about Canadian comedians and seemed to follow around 2 in particular, one Sabrina Jalees (http://www.sabrinajalees.com/HOME.html) and another (I can't remember the name or find it online) needless to say that both were of East Indian background.

and herein lies the problem...

Why do East Indian comics insist on making fun of their parents accents in order to get jokes. I, like a lot of people, LOVE to laugh. I don't normally consider myself a stick in the mud when it comes to making fun of people or things that can break me off a chuckle or two.

However, I think it's important for East Indian Comics (which apparently are on the up and up via the Russell Peters Movement) to bring stuff to the table that does not just put Indians up on a stage where 'others' think it's cool and ok to make fun of us with our accents and all.

I think it's degrading to our people, our culture and it demeans and disrespects our parents as well.

I'm sure there's a lot funnier shyt that you guys could spit being up there in all your glory. Using the Indian accent to make jokes just disrespects your people and your trials and tribulations as such.

Isn't there ANYTHING else an East Indian comic can do to make people laugh??? Is this how low you have to go to get into 'the scene'. Makes you wonder whether they're laughing WITH you or AT you...Doesn't it?
